The UTA offers advanced black belt certification for its members. The UTA promotion committee approves and certifies all rank advancement. If you are looking for proper accreditation without all the politics then the UTA is for you.
Black belts, Instructors and Master’s may promote and certify by passing all requirements set fourth by the board. Keeping with tradition, the UTA holds the highest standards for advance black belt promotions. Being promoted through the UTA is an honor and privileged. Time requirements for rank promotion
Under Black Belt
All students under the rank of Black belt must have a two Month minimum in between test.
Black Belt Ranks
1-R -6 month minimum
1st Dan -1 year minimum
2-R- 6 Month minimum
2nd Dan – Two year minimum
3-R – Rank used for students under the age of 16 years of age. Time is up to instructor when student test. Minimum time is 6 months.
3rd Dan to 4 Dan-Three year minimum and must be at least 16 years of age
4th Danto 5 Dan Four years minimum and must be at least 21 years of age
5th Dan to 6th Dan-Five years minimum
6th Dan to 7th Dan –Six years minimum/permission from testing committee (Title of Master will be awarded based on his or her contribution to the Martial Arts) Title will be awarded one to two years after 6th dan has been achieved. Title will be granted in an official Master’s ceremony held at one of the national testings.
7th Dan to 8th Dan– 7 years minimum and with UTA Executive board’s approval. One month time off credit will be awarded for each UTA approved International training camp (7th and 8th Dan only) Minimum age to promote is 44 years. Title of Senior Master will be used unless the person as a sixth degree was not awarded the title of “Master”. If so then the title of “Master is automatic at this rank.
8Th Dan to 9th Dan– UTA Executive Boards approval. One month time off credit will be awarded for each UTA approved International training camp (7th and 8th Dan’s only) Title of Chief Master will be awarded at 8th Dan’s.
Testing for 9th Dan – The UTA will promote 9th Dan’s based on contributions to the UTA network, Taekwondo as a whole and overall growth of the martial arts, business, education and current leadership for future growth. Minimum age is 49 to promote.
Title of Grand Master will be used for all 9th Degree Black Belts.
